Local doctor on the ball

New recruit Emma Haugh and Tiger's netball coach Dianne Guest Oakley.

Doctor Emma Haugh is exactly the medicine the Kyneton Football Netball Club needs.

New to Kyneton, after just one year Emma has decided to pull on the netball bib and play the sport she loves in her new community.

Emma considers herself a goal shooter and is a much-welcomed addition to the Kyneton Tiger's netball squad.

Born in England, she grew up with dogs, chickens and sheep and describes herself as an animal-loving country girl who originally wanted to be a vet.

Instead she decided she would prefer to treat humans, and is now a popular general practitioner at Campaspe Family Practice.

"The reason I chose to become a country GP in the first place was because of that patient relationship you build and feeling part of the community - that's just something you don't really get in the city," Emma said.

Her love of netball began when she was attending university in London where she played for six years, then just four days after arriving in Australia, she joined the St Kilda City FNC.

Kyneton Football Netball Club president Karen O'Sullivan is grateful Emma chose netball as her preferred sport.

"There are so many opportunities for women these days when it comes to sport, to have Emma join the club is a timely victory for the Kyneton Tigers' netball department," Karen said.

Emma said she thought it was about time she got involved.

"It's a great way to meet more people in the community and a fun way to stay active."

"I absolutely love working at CFP with the great care they provide.

"Although I know it will be many, many years until I may be considered a local, I currently have no plans to leave Kyneton and am loving the lifestyle here."

The Kyneton Tigers' netball department is continuing to recruit for the upcoming netball season. Pre-training is every Wednesday and Friday evening from 6pm at the Kyneton Showgrounds. Contact Cara Grambeau 0451 371 265.
