Newham Mechanics Institute Hall is showing support for same-sex marriage by offering free hall hire to the first couple to wed there.

The place for many weddings since it was established in 1903, the hall has much to offer and the decision to support the LGBTIQ community was an easy one, says hall committee secretary Kaye Mattiske (pictured).

The committee has made the offer public via its social media media platforms but is yet to hear from interested parties.

"People have decorated the hall so beautifully for weddings. It looks absolutely fantastic," Kaye said.

"People can use the space how they like and are welcome to rearrange things."

The hall offers a warm country feel and can seat about 80 guests. There is access to tables, chairs and church pews, as well as a slightly raised stage ideal for a bridal table. It is also equipped with stage lighting, a professional sound system and a large projector screen.

Nearby are parklands that have been used for weddings in the past. Various local catering services are also available in the Newham area.
