Wendy Black's letter ('I'll conceived and dangerous', Opinions, August 8) is an accurate assessment of the proposed development at 22 Calthorpe Street, Gisborne. The developers had an opportunity to create an appropriate number of medium density, energy efficient town houses with northerly aspects for solar panels, no overshadowing, double glazing, water tanks and abundant insulation. Instead they have opted for profit maximisation with 30 overcrowded dwellings.
Defeating this proposal at VCAT won't be easy. A group of Gisborne residents will need to organise themselves, collaborate with council, recruit a pro bono lawyer/ barrister and raise funds for an expert witness.
A group of Macedon residents worked with council to defeat a similar inappropriate proposal at 19 Victoria Street. It can be done. Best wishes.
