Rowan Theel and Tom Campbell will be tasked with improvements to Cobaw State Forest.

Cobaw State Forest improvements are a priority of two new Forest Fire Management Victoria officers who recently began work at Macedon.

Tom Campbell and Rowan Theel are the first forest and fire operations officers to work out of Macedon and will be responsible for a range of forest management activities around Macedon, Castlemaine, Maldon and Mount Alexander.

Murray Goldfields district manager Paul Bates said the pair would be responsible for day-to-day forestry activities as well as fire prevention and suppression.

"These new positions were created in Macedon because of the fire risk of the area and a lot of the bush is state forest, which is managed by Forest Fire Management Victoria," Mr Bates said.

"Rowan was a Forest Fire Management Victoria project firefighter for the past four years. Tom has worked for Parks Victoria for the past seven years in Halls Gap and Castlemaine. He was also a project firefighter."

DELWP is recruiting 300 project firefighters for summer along with 49 new permanent forest and fire operations officer roles. The forest fire operations officer jobs in Loddon Mallee region will be based in Castlemaine and Cohuna.
