Kyneton Angling Club has reeled in a $5000 federal government volunteer grant to bolster community fishing events.
For the past three years the club has held a popular family day as well as a monthly fishing competition and other activities, and president John Condliffe said the grant would go a long way to support those free events.
"The club is run by volunteers and promotes fishing and responsible outdoor activities for the whole family," he said.
"First aid, police checks, working with children checks and safety are big expenses for members and the club. The purchase of equipment, food and prizes is another challenge.
"We are committed to continuing our our community activities but need help in attracting, training and maintaining new volunteers."
The club is one of the oldest of its kind in the state and has been providing recreational fishing opportunities since 1893.
Members have always encouraged people of all ages and abilities and now looks forward to the next family day event.
