Thousands of locals and visitors streamed into Kennedy Street last Friday night to catch a glimpse of the extraordinary action-packed opening of the 2017 Castlemaine State Festival.
Those in attendance were taken on a stunning steampunk themed journey to The Future of Things Past which featured dance, song, carnivalesque, audiovisual and musical performances by acrobats, dancers, robots, beatboxers and brass bands which set the stage alight.
Local creative producer, international performer and the man responsible for the opening night extravaganza Sam Thomas and family (pictured) featured among the central characters of the dramatic performance which celebrated the town's history and its vibrant arts culture. The festival runs through until this Sunday. For more details see our feature on page 33 or visit www.castlemainefestival.com.au. Photo: Carl Dziunka
