Gather, park friends!

Test your strength in the Kyneton Tug-O-War, chill out with some live music, and keep the kids entertained with activities at Kyneton Community Park's annual Picnic in the Park.

Held at the site of Kyneton Community Park, this year's event will feature a jam-packed day of fun for all ages, catered by food vans, a sausage sizzle, and a free afternoon tea.

Sporting clubs, community groups and local businesses are all being called upon to register their tug-o-war teams for the annual fundraising event.

Kyneton Community Park will launch its official fundraising program at the picnic. Seventy-five per cent of the park's funding is now in sight following a pre-election Coalition Government commitment of $500,000.

Park president, Amy Cockroft, said the project is entering an exciting phase of community fundraising.

"Kyneton Community Park is destined to become a world-class park and a regional icon," Ms Cockroft said.

"Local support for this project has been overwhelming. People now have the opportunity to translate their support into something tangible by donating or becoming a park sponsor."

For a tax deductible donation of $50, families or individuals can become a 'Friend of Kyneton Community Park'. For every 'Friend' who gets on board, one metre of path will be built. Friends will be recognised through a special leaf emblem integrated into the path network.

"Becoming a 'Friend of Kyneton Community Park' is one of the simplest and most effective ways families and individuals can show their support," Ms Cockroft said.

Local businesses and community groups can also show leadership in giving and playing a special role in the story of Kyneton by becoming a park sponsor. Gold, silver and bronze sponsorship packages are available, and you, your business or your family can also sponsor a specific piece of equipment.

"Come rain, hail or shine, we are looking forward to a big turn-out for this year's Picnic in the Park. People of all ages and abilities are welcome to join in the fun and register their tug-o-war team at ($50 for a team of seven)," Ms Cockroft said.Picnic in the Park, a free public event, will be held in the lower section of the Kyneton's Botanic Gardens between 10am - 2pm on Sunday, November 24.
