I was outraged to see that the Macedon Ranges Shire Council had taken it upon itself to decide how Hanging Rock will be developed without proper public consultation ('Resort at the Rock', Macedon Ranges Guardian, August 30, 2013). The community wants to, and should be, involved in any future funding and management options proposed for Hanging Rock Reserve and the council-owned East Paddock where the recent concerts have been held. This land is ours, owned by the people of the Macedon Ranges and Victoria and not owned by the councillors. The mystery and beauty of Hanging Rock that we all love should not destroyed by a short-sighted cash grab by councillors and developers alike. I am not necessarily opposed to sensitive development on the site, but let's keep the process transparent and make clear the financial, strategic and environmental justifications for proposed development options.
