Macedon Football and Netball Club has started its pre-season preparations for the upcoming 2012 RDFL season.
New recruit, quick midfielder Shaun Neeson is a welcome addition to the team after a lengthy stint with the Doutta Stars in the Essendon District Football League and a season with the Kyneton Tigers in 2010.
“He is a great addition to the club,” Macedon Football and Netball Club president Brian Collins said, “he is a family man and will fit the culture of the club very well.”
“He has a well-credentialed football background.”
Neeson played under former Gisborne stalwart Marcus Barham last year and is eager to hit the ground running at his new club. The Cats will be looking to take major steps forward this season after getting the monkey off their backs with a finals win over Diggers Rest last year before a 10-point loss to eventual premiers Romsey in the semi-finals.
The recruitment of former Diggers Rest backman Jason Davies into the team last year provided more speed and toughness through the midfield and the club will look to build on that playing style this year.
The Cats resumed pre-season training last Monday and were welcomed by senior coach Alistair Meldrum and president Brian Collins. They will train Mondays and Wednesdays at the Tony Clarke Reserve from 6pm while the cricket season continues. Wednesday night sessions will conclude with a barbecue.
The Macedon Football Netball Club has embarked on a strategy to increase their profile in the community and make the people of Macedon and Mount Macedon more aware of what membership of the club can offer. Like most clubs, it can only flourish and grow with community involvement at player and membership level. People are welcome to attend training at the Tony Clarke Reserve and watch the players going through their paces.
